WASHINGTON, DC—Following Senate passage of improvements to the new health care reform law, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released the following statement:

“Today, we completed a long process to improve health care for Pennsylvanians and all Americans.  Health insurance will be more secure and more affordable for individuals and small businesses while decreasing the federal deficit.

“This is a victory for Pennsylvanians like Trisha Urban from Berks County whose family was denied coverage because of a preexisting condition and then ran into problems when the insurance company dropped coverage. Her husband died in the process.  And the same day he died, her daughter was born.

“Or the Ritter family from Manheim in Lancaster County. This family has two young girls whom I met last year. As children, these two little girls, Hannah and Madeline Ritter, hit their lifetime cap on their cancer treatment before they completed their course of treatment. When they hit this cap, they were 4 years old.  If that is not proof that comprehensive health reform is needed now, I do not know what more we can say.”
