Pennsylvania Spotlight

Good Works, Inc. - Chester County
I want to take a moment to recognize the outstanding efforts of a Pennsylvania organization that is helping to improve the living conditions of low-income families. Good Works, Inc. is a non-profit group based in Chester County which works to transform substandard houses into warmer, safer and drier homes.
Founded in 1988, Good Works offers repair services – including roof, plumbing, electrical, heating, insulation, and window and floor repair – to households with an average income of $16,500. Last year, Good Works utilized 1,830 volunteers to work on 50 homes and assist 164 families – all at no cost.
Recently, Good Works has helped to assist arson victims in Coatesville, where earlier this year city officials declared a state of emergency after a blaze struck 15 row houses and forced as many as 50 people from their homes. I have toured the area with Good Works executive director Jim Ford and repair supervisor Joe Lisowski, and met with victims and local officials. In recognition of their service to the community, I have awarded Good Works with the Pennsylvania Spotlight.
I applaud the efforts that Good Works has undertaken in Coatesville and the rest of Chester County. Their assistance to low-income families serves as an example for other organizations. I invite you to learn more about Good Works, and I look forward to highlighting other Pennsylvanians making a difference.
