Philadelphia, PA
Exactly one year to the day since the horrific hate crime in Charleston at an African Methodist Church, Senator Bob Casey renewed his call for action on gun control. Earlier this week, Casey introduced a new bill that would prevent those convicted of misdemeanor hate crimes from being able to purchase a gun.
Casey, joined by 30 AME ministers from across the region, outlined multiple steps he believes the U.S. needs to take to keep guns out of the hands of those with intentions of committing crimes like the Charleston shooting.
Casey gave remarks along with Bishop Gregory Ingram, prelate leader of the First Episcopal District of the AME Church; Rev. Mark Tyler, pastor of Mother Bethel AME Church; and Minister Rodney Muhammad, President of the Philadelphia NAACP.
