Senator Casey learned the art of healthful cooking from a nation-wide healthy recipe contest winner, nine-year-old Ava Terosky. Casey was joined by Marc Vetri, renowned chef/restaurateur and founder of Vetri Community Partnership, which empowers children and families through fresh food, hands-on experiences and education. This event highlighted the importance of accessibility of healthful foods and nationwide childhood nutrition while urging the Senate to reauthorize and protect child nutrition programs.
Terosky, a Philadelphia area native, tought Casey and Vetri her award-winning “Sunny’s Omelet” recipe following brief remarks. Ava was chosen as a national winner of Michelle Obama’s Healthy Lunchtime Challenge, a contest that drew of 1,200 entries from across the country.
