Senate Armed Services Ranking Member, Army Veteran Senator Jack Reed to Bring Years of Defense Expertise
Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) announced that he has secured the participation of the Senate Armed Services Committee’s Ranking Member, U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI), in the upcoming Showcase for Commerce event in Johnstown.
“I’m pleased that Senator Reed has accepted my invitation to this year’s Showcase for Commerce in Johnstown,” Senator Casey said. “This year’s event will highlight Pennsylvania’s skilled workforce and role as a global leader in business and defense manufacturing. I’m looking forward to this year’s Showcase and am confident that Senator Reed’s participation will contribute to its success.”

A West Point graduate and former Army Ranger, Jack Reed is Rhode Island’s senior United States Senator. As Ranking Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and as a senior member of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, Senator Reed has played a pivotal role in safeguarding our nation and has consistently worked across the aisle to support our troops.
Time magazine noted: “Reed is a serious, intellectually honest veteran and an expert on defense issues in the Senate,” and the New York Times describes him as “a quiet dealmaker respected by colleagues in both parties.”
Reed grew up in Cranston, Rhode Island. His father was a school custodian and World War II Navy veteran and his mother was a homemaker. After retiring from active duty, working at a law firm and serving at several levels of government, Reed was selected by the people of Rhode Island to succeed Claiborne Pell (D-RI) as Rhode Island's 46th U.S. Senator.
He and his wife, Julia Hart Reed, have a daughter, Emily.
