WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) accepted an award from the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology for his dedication to public service in support of biomedical science.
“I am honored to receive this award. Biomedical research saves lives and it’s good for the economy,” said Senator Casey. “In Pennsylvania, over 3,300 competitive grants have gone to companies and universities in 2011 alone, supporting thousands of jobs and ensuring a strong economic future. I am committed to maintaining the United States’ dominance in this field.”
Senator Casey accepted the Howard K. Schachman Public Service Award at a ceremony with Senator Richard Burr (R-NC), with whom Senator Casey has authored a bipartisan letter of support for sustained investment in the National Institutes of Health. The letter has 42 supporters in the Senate.
