WASHINGTON, DC—U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) today announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded $1 million to the Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH) to prevent and correct health and safety hazards in Philadelphia’s low-income households.
“These funds will greatly benefit those most in need of resources to provide a healthy home for themselves and their families,” said Senator Casey. “I am pleased that the Department of Housing and Urban Development recognizes the need to eliminate hazards to ensure the city’s low-income housing units are safe for Philadelphians.”
The Department of Public Health will partner with the William Penn and Wachovia Regional Foundations, the Coalition to End Childhood Lead Poisoning, Philadelphia Gas Works, Saint Christopher’s Hospital for Children, Philadelphia Electric Company and Natural Pest Control to target 150 households to correct and prevent safety hazards.
