Federal Investment Will Create Jobs, Bring Employers to Region and Strengthen Regional Economy

Senator Pushed for Grant – Weighed in with Secretary LaHood

WASHINGTON, DC Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation will commit $15 million to the Pittsburgh Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) for the Eastern Gateway Intermodal Center project in East Liberty.

Senator Casey pushed for the grant by personally weighing in with Secretary LaHood and submitting a formal letter of support for the city’s application. This investment will spur local and regional economic growth by improving transportation infrastructure in the high priority development area and connect East Liberty’s commercial development core with the strong residential market.

“This grant is an investment in Pittsburgh and will mean more jobs and economic development in the region,” Senator Casey said. “This project will create jobs in the short term and over the long run help solidify Pittsburgh as a destination for major employers.”
