WASHINGTON, DC U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation is awarding the Lehigh and Northampton Transportation Authority a $3 million grant through its Clean Fuels Program. Funding will be used to purchase hybrid buses built in the United States.

“New hybrid buses will help make our transit system cleaner and more dependable,” said Senator Casey. “This grant will keep us focused on using American ingenuity and manufacturing capability to produce vehicles for the future.”

“It’s a significant grant that helps us replace older vehicles in our fleet that are beyond their economic life,” said LANTA Executive Director Armando V. Greco. “And more importantly, we are able to replace them with vehicles that are environmentally friendly and fuel efficient.”

The Department of Transportation’s Clean Fuels Program helps communities control ozone and carbon monoxide pollution while supporting emerging clean fuel and advanced propulsion technologies for transit buses.
