WASHINGTON, DC U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation is awarding River Valley Transit a $3.5 million grant through its Clean Fuels Program. Funding will be used for the construction of River Valley Transit’s compressed natural gas fueling facility and the purchase of compressed natural gas transit vehicles.

“This grant will create jobs and help make our transit system cleaner,” said Senator Casey. “Natural gas has the potential to fuel economic development across the state, and I’m pleased that this grant will boost this development and ensure a future of clean transportation.”

“I’d like to thank Senator Casey for being a champion on this project. Once again this stresses the importance of Marcellus Shale in the Williamsport area. In my opinion it solidifies the model that Williamsport is the energy capital of Pennsylvania,” said Williamsport Mayor Gabe Campana.

The Department of Transportation’s Clean Fuels Program helps communities control ozone and carbon monoxide pollution while supporting emerging clean fuel and advanced propulsion technologies for transit buses.
