WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Bob Casey announced today that $4,000,000 in federal funding has been awarded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to the city of Erie. This grant will allow the city’s Redevelopment Authority to identify and eliminate health hazards in high-risk residences, as well as educate homeowners about the dangers of lead-based paint.
“Every family deserves a safe environment in which to live,” said Senator Casey. “Eliminating lead-based paint will remove a toxin that threatens the health and safety of anyone in these buildings.”
This funding was awarded by the HUD Office of Healthy Homes and Lead Hazard Control as part of the Lead-Based Paint Hazard Control, Lead Hazard Reduction Demonstration, Lead Outreach and Healthy Homes Tech Studies Grant Programs. It will allow Erie to evaluate 247 housing units for lead paint and lead hazards. This funding will target high-risk areas with low-income families and young children.
