Grant will improve Air Traffic Control Tower visibility and replace communication systems
University Park Airport has received more than $12.8 million in recent federal investments
Infrastructure law has invested more than $230 million in Pennsylvania airports
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) awarded $410,000 from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to better protect Air Traffic Control tower workers and replace the ground-to-air voice radio system at University Park Airport (SCE).
“University Park Airport is a vital connector for the people and economy of Centre County and the region,” Senator Casey said. “Thanks to the infrastructure law, the airport will be able to keep passengers safe and improve flight operations by improving communication and visibility between pilots in the air and workers in the Air Traffic Control Tower.”
The FAA Contract Tower Competitive Grant Program offers $20 million in grants from the infrastructure law to modernize air traffic control towers at many small town and municipal airports. These funds will allow airports to sustain, construct, repair, improve, rehabilitate, modernize, replace, or relocate non-approach control towers; acquire and install air traffic control, communications, and related equipment to be used in those towers.
