Appalachian Regional Commission Grants to Help Communities Affected by Coal Mining Job Loss

Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) is announcing that nine Pennsylvania entities will receive $8.197 million in POWER grants from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC). Grantee projects include broadband deployment, workforce substance abuse recovery and other regional development purposes. Casey advocated directly for the Clarion County, Gannon University and Outreach Center of Community Resources projects.

“We can’t build back better if we do not support rural communities that are too often left behind,” said Senator Casey. “Expanding broadband is a game-changer for local economies and essential for our children, who rely on the internet for homework assignments in an increasingly online world. These grants from the Appalachian Regional Commission will help communities across Pennsylvania to stay connected. Now it is up to Congress to pass the Build Back Better Budget to do the same for communities across the Nation.”
