Application for Grant Program Opens Today

WASHINGTON, DC- U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) today announced an open application period for the COPS Hiring Recovery Program (CHRP) which will allow local law enforcement agencies to apply for a portion of the $1 billion in COPS hiring grants included in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.  The CHRP is a competitive grant program that provides funding to local law enforcement agencies to put police on the streets and to increase their crime-prevention efforts.

“COPS hiring grants help local law enforcement agencies to create new jobs while making our communities safer,” said Senator Casey.  “I encourage law enforcement agencies from all over Pennsylvania to apply for this very important funding.”

The CHRP is a competitive grant program that provides funding directly to law enforcement agencies having primary law enforcement authority to create and preserve jobs and to increase their community policing capacity and crime-prevention efforts.

CHRP grants will provide 100 percent funding for approved entry-level salaries and benefits for three years for newly-hired, full-time sworn officer positions (including filling existing unfunded vacancies) or for rehired officers who have been laid off, or are scheduled to be laid off on a future date, as a result of local budget cuts.  Application submissions will open today and close April 14, 2009.
