Senator Jack Reed and Assistant Secretary of the Navy Bring Years of Defense Expertise / PA is Going to the Moon, Heroes2Hire Among New Events at Showcase
Washington, DC- Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) announced that he has secured the participation of U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) and Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development and Acquisition Sean Stackley as keynote speakers in the upcoming Showcase for Commerce in Johnstown. Senator Casey is also introducing a new speaker series, Pennsylvania is Going to the Moon, as well as a new Heroes2Hired booth focused on helping veterans find jobs.
“I’m pleased that Senator Reed and Assistant Secretary Stackley have accepted my invitation to come to the Showcase for Commerce,” Senator Casey said. “This year’s event will put on display the Pennsylvania’s skilled workforce and successful companies. I’m looking forward to this year’s Showcase and am confident that Senator Reed and Assistant Secretary Stackley’s participation will contribute to its success.”
A new speaker series, Pennsylvania is Going to the Moon, will consist of three organizations that will promote the emerging industry of commercialized lunar exploration, and will feature two teams competing for the Google XPrize. It will highlight the supporting STEM education programs that can create the foundation for students pursuing this emerging field.
John Thornton from Astrobotics Technology Inc., Michael Paul from Penn State Lunar Lion, and Dr. Lance Bush, CEO of the Challenger Center will be among the featured speakers.
As veterans still face the challenge of finding jobs as they return home, Senator Casey felt that it was important to also provide an opportunity for veterans in the region to have access to additional resources for finding jobs. The Johnstown area has been extremely successful in providing Veteran related support services, and this year, Senator Casey invited the Hero2Hired jobs program, to exhibit at Showcase for Commerce. Pennsylvania has a robust military and veterans community, and Senator Casey is looking to utilize Showcase as an opportunity to provide additional resources to our returning veterans.
Keynote Speakers
Senator Jack Reed will serve as the keynote speaker for the John P. Murtha Breakfast, on Friday, May 30th. He is a former Army Ranger and graduate of West Point. He served three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, and was elected to the Senate in 1996. He currently serves on Armed Services Committee, and is Chair of the Subcommittee on Seapower, and is a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Defense Subcommittee.
The Honorable Sean Stackley, the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development and Acquisition, will be the keynote speaker at the Program Executive Officer Luncheon on Thursday, May 29th. Mr. Stackley was commissioned and graduated with distinction from the United States Naval Academy in 1979, with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He holds the degrees of Ocean Engineer and Master of Science, Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Mr. Stackley is responsible for the research, development and acquisition of Navy and Marine Corps platforms and warfare systems which includes oversight of more than 100,000 people and an annual budget in excess of $50 billion.
