WASHINGTON, DC—U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) today announced the designation of the Arch Street Friends Meeting House in Philadelphia as a national historic landmark by the U.S. Department of the Interior.
“With its new designation as a national historic landmark, the Arch Street Friends Meeting House will continue to preserve and showcase Philadelphia’s rich history and connect people to our cultural heritage,” said Senator Casey.
The Arch Street Friends Meeting House is the largest Quaker Meeting House in the country. It was built by noted Federal period architect and author Owen Biddle and has been in continuous use since 1805.
National historic landmarks receive a designation letter, plaque and technical preservation advice from the National Park Service.
