WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator Bob Casey announced today that the Department of Justice (DOJ) has awarded $121,972 in federal funding for the Norristown, Pottsville and Cheltenham Police Departments.  This money, part of the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG), will be used to fund police officer overtime and crime fighting equipment.

“I am pleased that this funding will go to these police forces,” Senator Casey said.  “This funding will bolster law enforcement, help local budgets and bring more criminals to justice”

Federal funding is made available by the Department of Justice as part of the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG). It is awarded to state or local initiatives that will improve or enhance law enforcement programs related to criminal justice.

Norristown will use this funding to support training between the community and the police department and to purchase cruiser cameras and data drives. Pottstown will use the funds for police officer overtime and equipment purchases. Cheltenham’s portion will help purchase an automatic license plate reader.
