WASHINGTON, DC-U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) today announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has awarded $139,874 to the Marcus Hook Trainer Fire Department in Delaware County.
“Pennsylvania’s firefighters endure risk and sacrifice every day to keep their community safe,” said Senator Casey. “This grant will ensure that the Marcus Hook Trainer Fire Department is able to provide critical training to its firefighters, and others in the region, that will increase safety awareness and reduces costly accidents and injuries.”
Federal funds are awarded through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program (AFG) which aims to strengthen the Nation’s first responders’ ability to protect the health and safety of the public as well the responders’ themselves.
To be eligible for the program, each department must provide some portion of the funding in addition to the federal funds. The cost sharing is based on department size, with larger fire departments bearing a larger share of the program costs. Fire departments serving 50,000 residents or fewer are responsible for 10 percent of the total program costs while departments serving more than 50,000 residents share 30 percent of the total program costs.
Senator Casey will continue his efforts to help secure these important funds for Pennsylvania.
