Casey Pushed for Funding to Help PA Recover
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) today announced over $49 million in funding for Pennsylvania to aid in the recovery from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee.
“I pushed Congress to pass this funding so that communities in Pennsylvania can recover from the historic flooding that occurred last year,” said Senator Casey. “As Pennsylvania’s communities work hard to strengthen their economies, these resources will help ensure that the damage from the floods does not hold back their progress.”
Over $27 million has been allocated for all counties that received an Individual Assistance disaster declaration in 2011, with the bulk of the funding directed to the most impacted counties of Bradford, Dauphin, Columbia, Wyoming and Luzerne.
Additionally, Luzerne County will receive $15,738,806 and Dauphin County will receive $6,415,833 because of the significant damage that occurred in these areas.
Funding is available through the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. Senator Casey urged congressional appropriators to fund CDBG to help Pennsylvania recover from the floods in a letter last November.
