WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Senator Bob Casey announced today that the Appalachian Regional Commission has awarded $49,060 to the Ridgway Area School District to develop and improve a three-mile environmental education trail.

“I am pleased that the Ridgway Area School District is receiving funding to develop an environmental education trail,” Senator Casey said.  “This project will allow hundreds of students to enjoy the outdoors and learn about the value of protecting the environment for future enjoyment.”

The funding will develop an environmental education project serving Elk, Cameron, McKean and Potter Counties, as well as the Pennsylvania Wilds Lumber Heritage Region. The trail will be used by over 600 students a year and eco-tourism curriculums will be offered at six area schools. The project will also enhance the economy of the area through the promotion of tourism, education, physical fitness and the entrepreneurial arts.
