WASHINGTON, DC-U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) today announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded $85,620 in grants to three southwestern Pennsylvania boroughs for community facilities development.

“The federal funds going to southwestern Pennsylvania will help fund the acquisition of vital community resources,” said Senator Casey. “It is good to see investments in infrastructure development and public safety in our rural Pennsylvania communities.”

The funding for southwestern Pennsylvania is part of $469 million announced today through the USDA Rural Development Community Facilities Program. The Community Facilities Program helps finance essential community facilities for public use in rural areas. These facilities include child care centers, hospitals, medical clinics, assisted-living facilities, fire and rescue stations, police stations, community centers, public buildings and transportation.

The Borough of East McKeesport in Allegheny County is receiving a $29,700 grant to purchase two police cars.

The Borough of Slippery Rock in Butler County is receiving a $24,560 grant to purchase a new police car.

The Borough of Vandergrift in Westmoreland County is receiving a $31,360 grant to purchase two street maintenance vehicles and two police cars.
