Project Will Have Positive Impact on Jobs and the Local Economy
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) announced that the Army Corps of Engineers has released a Project Partnership Agreement (PPA) to move forward with dredging the Fairless Hills turning basin at the Port of Bucks County along the Delaware River, a project that will have a positive economic impact on Bucks County and Southeastern Pennsylvania. The Port of Bucks is part of the larger Keystone Industrial Port Complex.
“This deepening project will promote job creation, spur economic growth and help the Keystone Industrial Port Complex remain an attractive location for business,” said Senator Casey. “Shipping is a vital part of Southeastern Pennsylvania’s economy and I will continue to support projects and policies that will bring jobs to the region.”
Last month, Senator Casey sent a letter to Assistant Secretary of the Army Jo-Ellen Darcy urging the approval of the PPA to move forward with the project. The PPA must now be signed by the Redevelopment Authority of the County of Bucks and the North Atlantic Division of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The dredging project will increase the depth of the water shipping terminal at the Port of Bucks by three feet to 40 feet, allowing the port to accommodate larger ships to attract businesses and spur economic growth.
A recent study credited the Keystone Industrial Port Complex with generating over $1 billion in economic activity in Southeastern Pennsylvania and supporting over 9,000 local direct and indirect jobs.
