WASHINGTON, DC— U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released the following statement after learning that laid-off GE Transportation workers in the Erie area had  been granted their petition for Trade Adjustment Assistance by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL):

“This is wonderful news for former GE Transportation workers in Northwestern Pennsylvania.  Being granted this Trade Adjustment Assistance will allow for these workers to have access to retraining programs, a Health Coverage Tax Credit as well as other support that will help them get back on their feet in these tough economic times.

“I applaud the work of the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America, Local 506, Opportunities Erie, as well as my fellow congressional colleagues who helped make this a reality.”

Senator Casey wrote four letters to the U.S. Department of Labor to support this petition, spoke with the CEO of GE Transportation, Lorenzo Simonelli and met with union president Jim Pifer.
