Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released the following statement on the Senate ratification of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) treaty to admit Finland and Sweden as NATO members. The vote passed the Senate 95-1.
“In illegally invading Ukraine and waging a brutal and devastating war against the Ukrainian people, Vladimir Putin has bolstered the western alliance against him and authoritarianism. Today’s vote sends a clear message that the free world stands united in our commitment to democratic values, human rights, the rule of law and peace in Europe. For 73 years, NATO has been the bedrock of the global order and today’s vote only strengthens our transatlantic alliance.”
