WASHINGTON, DC- U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) applauds Senate passage of HR 6893, the Fostering Connections to Success and Increasing Adoption Act. This legislation aims to provide assistance to children in foster care.
“This is a landmark piece of legislation for children in foster care in Pennsylvania and across the country,” said Senator Casey. “Far too many of our children languish in foster care without the permanence and stability that every child needs and deserves. I am especially concerned that states have the resources they need to ensure children in foster care are either reunited with their families or successfully placed with a loving adoptive family as soon as possible. This bill puts kids first, which is exactly where they must be.”
“This comprehensive bi-partisan reform measure will address critical needs in the child welfare system and promote permanency and well-being outcomes for children and families across Pennsylvania and the nation,” said Joan L. The Fostering Connections to Success and Increasing Adoption Act seeks to provide invaluable assistance to children in foster care by ensuring permanent placements with relatives, increasing the number of adoptive families for children and helping siblings in foster care to stay together. It also seeks to improve outcomes for older children in foster care by continuing care after they turn 18, expand funding for training and improving the quality of staff working with children, allow Indian tribes direct access to federal foster care assistance and requiring states to coordinate the health and education needs of children in foster care.
