The Middle School Technical Education Program Act Creates Career and Technical Education Programs for Middle School Students

Washington DC- Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) announced that he has cosponsored legislation, The Middle School Technical Education Program (Middle STEP) Act, that would provide support for the development of middle school career exploration programs linked to career and technical education (CTE) programs of study. The legislation, which was recently reintroduced by Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA), would specifically establish a pilot program for CTE exploration programs.  The Middle STEP Act would also award grants to local educational agencies and other eligible partnerships to develop a middle school CTE exploration program that transitions to career and technical education programs of study.

“The Middle STEP Act is essential in helping prepare students at a younger age to compete for the next generation of jobs,” said Senator Casey.  “I am hopeful that Congress will move forward on this legislation so that middle school students can develop these important skills that will better prepare them for a bright future.”

Along with Senator Casey, Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) and Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) are among The Middle Step Act’s cosponsors.
