Senate Currently Debating Water Infrastructure Bill

Casey-backed Measure In Bill Could Increase Operating Hours

Washington DC- U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) announced that a bill currently on the Senate floor could aid recreational boaters across Southwestern Pennsylvania by increasing operating hours. The Senate is currently debating a water infrastructure bill that includes a pilot program that would allow non-federal entities to contribute funding to keeping locks open for recreation boaters.

“Recreational boating has a long history in our state and this provision will help that tradition continue,” Senator Casey said. “Boaters across  Southwestern Pennsylvania are hopeful to increase operating hours this summer, and this pilot program will be a step in that direction.

The Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) is the pending bill on the Senate floor and would make improvements to water infrastructure across the country. The bill includes portions of Senator Casey’s River Act which has the potential to increase investment in Southwestern Pennsylvania’s locks and dams.
