PA Senior Senator & Local Business Owners Discuss Economic Development, Work To Build Common Ground
Philadelphia, PA – Last week, in an effort to highlight the invaluable contributions of immigrants to our Nation and to highlight the great work of local entrepreneurs who have come here from around the world, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) joined locals in a “Welcoming Week” discussion. Among other topics, Casey and participants discussed the many ways that small immigrant-owned businesses are major assets to economic development across the Nation.
“Immigrants are a critical part of our economy and labor force, in Pennsylvania and across the Nation,” said Senator Casey. “They are part of the fabric of our country, enriching our communities and contributing to the diversity of thought that makes our Nation strong. I will continue to fight to reform our immigration system in a way that secures our borders, protects the human rights of all people and grows our economy.”
“The Office of Immigrant Affairs is proud to help organize Philadelphia’s Welcoming Week celebrations each year,” said Symbol Lai, Deputy Director for the City of Philadelphia’s Office of Immigrant Affairs. “It gives us an opportunity to encourage dialogue between our U.S.-born residents and those who have come to our city as immigrants or refugees. We’re grateful Senator Casey was able be part of Philadelphia’s celebrations this year and highlight the many contributions immigrants make to communities across our city, state and nation.”
