Senator Worked to Facilitate Deal that Saved Jobs by Preserving Refining Capacity
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released the following statement as a number of workers returned to the Trainer oil refinery after a deal for Delta to purchase the facility was finalized last week:
“I am pleased to see workers back on the job at the Trainer refinery. This is great news for the entire region. Permanently shuttering the facility would have been a huge hit to the local economy. I was pleased to work with Delta, the Governor and the entire Pennsylvania delegation to make this day a reality and I will continue to work to save jobs at the Sunoco refineries in Philadelphia and Marcus Hook.”
Senator Casey held a Joint Economic Committee hearing on the impact of refinery closures in April and strongly pushed ConocoPhillips to find a buyer that would continue to use the facility as a refinery to protect consumers from a possible fuel supply crunch and to preserve hundreds of jobs. He also worked closely with Delta to make sure the acquisition was completed.
