Washington, D.C. – For decades, our nation’s miners have endured back-breaking work to ensure that the lights keep running and our homes can be heated. And for many, their hard work has led to debilitating black lung. To ensure that our nation upholds its obligation to the men and women who’ve worked to literally power our country, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) and U.S. Representatives Mike Doyle (D-PA-14), Matt Cartwright (D-PA-17), and Conor Lamb (D-PA-18) are calling on Congressional leaders to secure funding for the Black Lung Disability Trust Fund and secure their promised pensions.
“Our nation's coal miners made a commitment to provide our nation with the energy we needed to power our nation to prosperity and they risked their health and lives to do so,” wrote the members of Congress. “Now is not the time to pull back on funding or abandon our miners in their hour of need. It is time for us to keep our full promise to them and ensure their benefits are not lost.”
U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Mark Warner (D-VA), Tim Kaine (D-VA), and Doug Jones (D-AL) and U.S. Representatives Marcia Fudge (D-OH-11) , William Lacy Clay (D-MO-1) , Bennie Thompson (D-MS-2) and Brenda Lawrence (D-MI-14) joined Casey, Doyle, Cartwright, and Lamb in this effort.
