Region Was Devastated By Storms, Funds Will Cover 75% of Debris Removal Costs
Washington DC- U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) announced today that West Pittston will receive $1,932,070.18 in federal funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for cleanup from Tropical Storm Lee. The funds will reimburse West Pittston for the cost of cleanup from the storm.
The $1.9 million in federal funds constitute 75 percent of the over $2.5 million in total costs West Pittston incurred for debris removal associated with Tropical Storm Lee. The Commonwealth is expected to provide the balance of the funding to cover the total costs incurred by the borough.
“West Pittston was truly devastated by Irene and Lee. With matching funds from the Commonwealth, this funding will help West Pittston move forward in its effort to recover,” Casey said. “The incredible cost of rebuilding is too much for one community to bear, so I’m pleased that FEMA has done the right thing and reimbursed the borough.”
Senator Casey has fought to ensure West Pittston and communities devastated by the storms have the resources they need. In the aftermath of the storms he urged the federal government to quickly provide aid and has fought against efforts by FEMA to place West Pittston on probation.
