Washington, DC- With the budget on the floor of the Senate, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) highlighted school district by school district data while releasing a new report on the impact of the Senate GOP’s budget on children. Critical programs like SNAP, special education and head start would face draconian cuts harming vulnerable children throughout Pennsylvania. One estimate has shown that the Senate GOP budget would mean 1,250 fewer Head Start slots for Pennsylvania’s children each year over the next decade. Casey’s report sheds new light on the full impact that the budget, which is slated for a vote this week, would have on the Commonwealth’s children.
“The Senate GOP budget will have devastating impacts on children in Pennsylvania and throughout the nation,” Senator Casey said. “Gutting programs like SNAP, Medicaid and special education funding will hurt the economy and make it more difficult for children to succeed. If a child is hungry then that child is more likely to face challenges in school which can lead to difficulties in the workforce. The bottom line is that these draconian cuts are bad for children and erode the foundations of our economy.”
