CORAOPOLIS, PA – U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) today hosted a military families roundtable to discuss the effects military careers have on military spouses and children. During the roundtable discussion, Senator Casey focused on the ways he can better serve military families as they serve our nation. Senator Casey was joined by members of the Pennsylvania Chapter of Blue Star Families as well as representatives from local military units including the 316th Expeditionary Sustainment Command (U.S. Army Reserve), the 911th Airlift Wing (U.S. Air Force Reserve) and the 171st PA Air National Guard Refueling Wing and Naval Operation Support Center.
“In order to maintain a highly effective force, we not only have to take care of the men and women in uniform, but also their families who patriotically share the sacrifices of military service,” said Senator Casey. “As an elected official, it is my duty to understand the challenges military families face and do everything possible to provide them with the support they deserve.”
Senator Casey recently introduced the Military Spouse Job Continuity Act, which offers a tax credit of up to $500 to military spouses who have to transfer a professional license across state lines as the result of a Permanent Change of Station order.
Senator Casey has also worked diligently to ensure military families and veterans have access to commissary and Post Exchange services. He supported federal funding for a commissary relocation project to replace an existing facility in Oakdale with a new facility in Coraopolis. Senator Casey also worked to keep the Oakdale facility open until the new facility could be completed.
