Carney introduces companion resolution in the House

WASHINGTON, DC— U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) today introduced a resolution honoring the 28th Infantry Division for serving and protecting the United States. The resolution recognizes the contributions of the division from its beginnings prior to the Revolutionary War through its most recent service in Afghanistan and Iraq.

“Next week our nation will celebrate Memorial Day – a day to acknowledge the sacrifices made by those who have served our country and perished in the line of duty. Pennsylvania’s 28th Infantry Division has been an ardent defender of our nation from the division’s establishment through its most recent service in Afghanistan and Iraq,” said Senator Casey. “For these reasons, I am proud to introduce a Senate resolution recognizing their contributions, valor and honor and I know that the people of Pennsylvania and the United States thank them for their service.”

“On Monday we’ll pay tribute to all of our nation’s veterans and their families and this resolution honors one of the most storied divisions in the Army,” said Congressman Carney. “The 28th Infantry Division’s accomplishments are due in large part to the dedication and bravery of Pennsylvanians, who have contributed greatly to the division over the years.”

The resolution also recognizes that since its inception, 10 members of the 28th Infantry Division have been awarded the Medal of Honor, four the Legion of Merit and 258 the Silver Star.

The 28th Infantry Division has 127 units in 90 armories in 75 cities across Pennsylvania.
