WASHINGTON, DC- U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) introduced a resolution to prohibit text messaging by employees of the Senate while driving on official business. He introduced the resolution in an effort to combat distracted driving.
“Drivers distracted by handheld electronic devices are a major obstacle to keeping our roadways safe,” said Senator Casey. “Employees of the Senate should serve as examples for the rest of the country and practice responsible driving, while saving texting for a time when they are not behind the wheel.”
The resolution prohibits any person employed by the Senate from any form of electronic data retrieval or electronic data communication while driving. The prohibition is in effect when a Senate employee is driving a government owned or leased vehicle, driving a privately owned or leased vehicle on official business or when using handheld electronic equipment provided by any office or committee of the Senate.
