Casey Spoke in Defense of TAA as Senate Voted on Amendment to Repeal Portions of the Assistance
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) today spoke on the Senate floor to defend assistance for small manufacturers that are threatened by our trade policies. Reauthorization of the Trade Adjustment Assistance for firms program was included in legislation sponsored by Senator Casey that recently passed by both the Senate and the House. Today’s amendment, offered by Senator McCain, would have eliminated the program. The amendment failed by a vote of 55-44.
“Past trade deals have sent jobs overseas and several administrations haven’t done enough to crack down on China's unfair trade policies,” said Senator Casey. “Our workers and our companies need safeguards …. and that's one of the reasons why trade adjustment assistance is so important.”
