Washington, DC- As reporting indicates that the House Republicans could consider new draconian cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) met with hunger advocates from across Pennsylvania and vowed to fight new attempts to the gut SNAP which aids vulnerable children and seniors throughout the nation. In previous years House Republicans have proposed cutting SNAP by as much as $40 billion despite independent analyses showing that a $1 investment in SNAP generates $1.75 in economic growth.
“Another round of draconian cuts to the SNAP program will harm vulnerable children and seniors in Pennsylvania and negatively impact economic growth,” Senator Casey said. “Over the last few years the Senate has pushed for substantial reforms to the SNAP program to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Despite these steps, some in the House seem insistent on launching a mean-spirited campaign against the vulnerable. Hunger does not cease to exist if funding is cut.”
