WASHINGTON, DC- U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released the following statement after meeting with the Pakistani Ambassador to the U.S., Husain Haqqani:

“In recent months, we have seen an unacceptable increase in cross-border attacks from al Qaeda and Taliban militants using Pakistani territory to plan attacks against U.S. and coalition forces in Afghanistan.  It is long past time for the United States to refocus attention and resources on the leading front in the war on terror – the border region adjoining these two nations that serves as the most likely hiding place for Osama bin Laden and other senior al Qaeda leaders.

“In my discussion with Ambassador Haqqani, I emphasized how much our nation values Pakistan as a partner and ally.   The United States and Pakistan will have their inevitable differences, but we share a common agenda of marginalizing extremists and empowering the Pakistani people.”
