PA Senior Senator Calls Out Latest GOP Tax Plan Which Would Finance Tax Cuts For the Largest, Wealthiest Corporations with Potential Cuts to Medicare, Medicaid

Elizabethtown, PA - Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA), Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging, addressed a group of Pennsylvania seniors on the latest GOP tax plan. Casey called out this tax plan’s trillions in cuts for corporations, millionaires and billionaires and highlighted the potential devastating impacts of the proposed $1.5 trillion in budget cuts to Medicare and Medicaid.

“It’s plain and simple, these cuts will devastate seniors in Pennsylvania,” said Senator Casey. “What congressional Republicans are pursuing is not tax reform, but a massive giveaway to the wealthiest at the expense of seniors and the middle class. There should not be one penny in tax cuts for the wealthiest, biggest corporations and special interests in Washington that is financed by cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, our schools and other vital programs for middle class families.”

As it stands now, the GOP budget proposes over $2 trillion in tax breaks for corporations, millionaires and billionaires. Among other devastating cuts, they propose slashing nearly $500 billion from Medicare and over $1 trillion from Medicaid. Casey also highlighted some of the findings from a recent Aging Committee hearing that explored efforts to combat illegal robocalls.
