PHILADELPHIA, PA-U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) today joined Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and Philadelphia Councilman Darrell Clarke to discuss the $475,000 in federal funding going to the City of Philadelphia for its North Broad Street Project.
“This project is an investment in the economic development along the North Broad Street corridor,” said Senator Casey. “This funding will help strengthen Philadelphia’s already rich history and culture and will have lasting results in this community.”
"This funding from Senator Casey - together with capital dollars from the City of Philadelphia - represent an essential investment in this great American boulevard," said Mayor Nutter. "We are working with the Avenue of the Arts and the surrounding community to put together a plan for how exactly this funding will be invested. Thank you to Senator Casey for bringing these resources back to Philadelphia."
Federal funding for the North Broad Avenue of the Arts Project was included in the recently passed Fiscal Year 2009 Omnibus Appropriations bill. It will be used to stimulate economic development along the North Broad Street corridor. Improvements could include new lighting, street trees and sidewalk improvements.
