Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released the following statement in response to President Trump’s comments on China trade:
“Our nation sure as hell should blame China for their trade cheating. When China cheats on trade, Pennsylvania workers lose their jobs and their wages stagnate. Instead of giving China a pass, President Trump should be holding China accountable. For months, the Administration has talked about taking action against China’s cheating but all we get is delay.
"The Administration can protect Pennsylvania workers today by taking action on China’s illegal subsidies and dumping of aluminum and steel. The Commerce Department has worked diligently on this issue but the White House is delaying their work in order to push a tax scheme that puts the wealthy first. I have been critical of administrations of both parties, including the Obama Administration, for failing to protect our workers and take on China’s trade cheating. I was encouraged by President Trump’s words on China’s behavior on trade during the campaign, but 10 months later, needless delays out of this administration have only caused further harm. Enough. It’s time for action to protect our workers and their wages.”
