Casey Provision Would Work to Preserve 1-3 Day Mail Delivery

In Postal Reform Bill, PA Has 10 Processing Centers and Hundreds of Jobs At Stake

In Conference Call, Casey Details Regional Breakdown of State’s Processing Centers and Local Impact of Postal Jobs 

WASHINGTON, DC – As the U.S. Senate debates a bill that would make historic reforms to the U.S. Postal Service, U.S. Senator Bob Casey introduced a provision, which would preserve 1-3 day delivery and increase the chances that the state’s processing facilities remain open.

During a conference call Senator Casey discussed a breakdown of the region’s processing facilities and the jobs that could be impacted by their closure.

“We need to continue to find ways to make the postal service more cost effective and efficient, while maintaining the jobs and services Pennsylvanians should rightly expect,” Casey said. “As this bill moves forward, I will fight to ensure 1-3 day delivery service is maintained. Maintaining 1-3 day delivery will protect jobs and increase the chances that our processing facilities can stay open.”

Senator Casey has been a leader in ensuring that any reforms made to the U.S. Postal Service protect jobs in Pennsylvania. Earlier this year he called for an independent review of the numbers that USPS used to justify the closings of some processing facilities. Now, he is introducing an amendment that would increase the likelihood that those facilities stay open by maintaining the 1-3 day delivery service.

Across Pennsylvania there are 10 processing facilities slated for consolidation.  Nearly 2,500 jobs in Pennsylvania are potentially impacted by changes at these facilities. Below is a breakdown:
