In Letter to Chevron CEO Casey Urges Company To Locate Regional Headquarters In Moon
Additional Natural Gas Development Could Further Position Commonwealth as National Leader
Washington, DC- Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) announced that he has sent a letter to Chevron Chairman and CEO John Watson urging the company to move forward with plans for a new development in Moon Township that would make Moon Township the company’s regional headquarters and could potentially add jobs in the region.
“Moon Township’s highly skilled workforce is well positioned to take up this added work from Chevron and would be an ideal location for regional headquarters,” Senator Casey said. “Pennsylvania is a national leader in natural gas development. An additional presence by Chevron in Moon Township will add to the region’s role as a natural gas hub.”

Dear Mr. Watson:
I was pleased to see the most recent reports of Chevron acquiring additional property in Moon Township, Pennsylvania that will house the 650 employees already here in the Pittsburgh area, in addition to potentially hiring new employees in the region. As the company moves forward with plans for this new development, I would like to encourage Chevron to strongly consider this location for a regional headquarters.
Pennsylvania has historically maintained a strong presence in the natural gas industry, and specifically southwestern Pennsylvania, has the necessary assets to support a regional headquarters. With the expansion of Marcellus and Utica Shale extraction, industry partners have identified Pennsylvania as strategic location for access to these resources, along with the strong manufacturing presence to support the natural gas supply chain.
In addition, the region’s strong educational institutions provide programs to support this growing industry in the areas of research and new technologies, along with workforce development. I was pleased to see of your partnership with organizations such as Pittsburgh Technical Institute, along with your support for Westmoreland Community College’s ShaleNET workforce development program that is setting foundation for well-educated and trained employees to support the natural gas industry.
As Chevron develops plans for the Moon Township facility, I request that you consider these key components of location, regional assets, and our talented workforce that will lay the foundation of the future success of Chevron, not only in this region, but worldwide.
