This Morning, Casey Met with New Sallie Mae CEO to Underscore Case for Jobs
Washington, DC- Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) announced that Sallie Mae has affirmed its plan to keep and grow employment in its Wilkes-Barre office. When Sallie Mae announced it was splitting its operations, Casey sent a letter to the company urging them to maintain robust employment in Luzerne County. Today, Casey met with new Sallie Mae CEO, Jack Remondi; the company pledged to maintain and add jobs in Wilkes-Barre. Right now, Sallie Mae said it’s looking to hire for 60-80 positions at its Wilkes-Barre facility.
“When Sallie Mae announced it was splitting its operations there was legitimate concern that jobs could be at stake,” Senator Casey said. “I was pleased to meet with the company’s new CEO this morning and learn of their decision to maintain and increase jobs in Luzerne County. Sallie Mae’s decision is a testament to Northeastern Pennsylvania’s highly skilled workforce.”

Dear Mr. Remondi:
I am writing to congratulate you on being named CEO of Sallie Mae and to urge you to consider the important work the Sallie Mae employees in Hanover Township, Luzerne County, have provided to the company for more than 25 years.
As you are aware, Sallie Mae’s loan servicing facility in Northeastern Pennsylvania employs approximately 900 people and the loss of these jobs would have serious repercussions on the regional economy. As you continue your work in restructuring into two separate companies, I urge you to consider this highly skilled workforce and to maintain these jobs in this region.
I look forward to any opportunity to work with you to keep this loan servicing facility open and to protect these jobs.
