In June, Problems At Station Led to Travelers Being Locked Out Again-- Senator Called for Immediate Reforms
Amtrak Will Now Install Automatic Locks That Will Open in Morning
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) announced that he has secured a commitment from Amtrak to make reforms at the Lancaster station after multiple incidents of passengers being locked out of the station in the morning, the most recent incident occurring last month. Travelers were forced to cross over train tracks just to board their train.
In June, Senator Casey called on Amtrak to make immediate reforms to the station to prevent travelers from getting locked out. Now, he has secured a commitment from Amtrak to install automatic locks at the station that will open every morning.
“I’m pleased that Amtrak has committed to make reforms at the Lancaster station so travelers will no longer be locked out,” Senator Casey said. “Safe, reliable and efficient transportation is critical to Lancaster’s economy, and I’ll continue to follow the situation closely to ensure Amtrak follows through on its commitments.”
Senator Casey has also led the effort to expedite ongoing renovation efforts at the station.
