Casey Fought Through Red Tape to Secure Medal for 99 Year Old Vet
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) has helped to secure a Prisoner of War Medal for Mr. Vincent Benedict, a Bryn Mawr resident who was captured during the Battle of the Bulge and held by the German government for four months during World War II. Mr. Benedict was presented with the medal at a ceremony at his home today.
“I am humbled by the selflessness and bravery Vincent Benedict showed as a prisoner of war,” said Senator Casey. “Mr. Benedict’s courage is truly admirable, and after years of delay I am pleased that he has finally received the Prisoner of War Medal. The entire nation is thankful for his service.”
Mr. Benedict, who is 99 years old and will turn 100 on July 4th, was captured by the German government on December 20, 1944, and was held until April 26, 1945.
