WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senators Bob Casey and Richard Shelby entered into a friendly wager over the outcome of Saturday’s matchup between two of the winningest programs in NCAA football history. Penn State will play the University of Alabama this weekend in a meeting of two top-25 teams. Senator Casey bet ice cream from Penn State’s legendary Berkey Creamery against a smoked turkey from Bates Turkey Farm in Fort Depost, AL.

"It’s going to feel like Thanksgiving has come early when I get to enjoy that smoked turkey in celebration of Penn State’s big win this weekend,” said Senator Casey.  “With the duel rushing threat of Evan Royster and Stephfon Green and the ever tenacious defense of Linebacker U all under the direction of legendary coach Joe Paterno, the Nittany Lions will have no problem knocking off the defending national champions in the prime-time lights of Bryant-Denny Stadium."

“The University of Alabama and Penn State have two storied programs with a rivalry forged by historic moments in college football,” said Shelby.  “Chief among them, the Goal Line Stand has become entrenched in Alabama lore and remembered in pictures on the walls of restaurants and living rooms across the state.  The Crimson Tide faithful are well-acquainted with Coach Joe Paterno and, through these contests, have developed a deep respect for the competitive spirit and class that he has brought to the game. I know that Coach Saban will have the Crimson Tide prepared to compete with intensity and integrity in this tremendous matchup.  I look forward to supporting our student-athletes as they welcome Coach Paterno and the Nittany Lions to the newly expanded Bryant-Denny stadium.”

The #18 Nittany Lions will take on the top-ranked Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, AL at 7pm on Saturday, September 11.
