WASHINGTON, DC-U.S. Senators Bob Casey (D-PA) and Arlen Specter (D-PA) announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded $19,653,300 in loans to three projects in Southwestern Pennsylvania to protect public health and the environment by improving water quality and public sanitation services. The loans are available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
“By investing in water and wastewater projects we can ensure that Pennsylvania families have access to safe drinking water and the environment is protected in communities across the Commonwealth,” said Senator Casey. “It is good to see Recovery Act funds positively impacting Southwestern Pennsylvania.”
“I am pleased to see stimulus funds being used for water system improvements in Pennsylvania,” said Senator Specter. “This money will help protect the environment and ensure Pennsylvanians’ access to safe, clean drinking water.”
The loans for Southwestern Pennsylvania are part of $445.3 million in ARRA funds announced today by USDA for 89 water and wastewater infrastructure projects in communities across the country.
Hempfield Township Municipal Authority in Westmoreland County is receiving a $8,156,000 loan for wastewater system improvements.
The Municipal Authority of Buffalo Township in Butler County is receiving a $6,031,000 loan for water system improvements.
Washington Township in Fayette County is receiving a $5,466,300 loan for wastewater system improvements.
