WASHINGTON, DC-U.S. Senators Bob Casey (D-PA) and Arlen Specter (D-PA) today announced that the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has awarded $2,697,393 in National Emergency Grants (NEG) to Pennsylvania to provide on-the-job training and help Pennsylvanians get back to work. The funding is available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
“The funds going to Pennsylvania for on-the-job training are yet another example of the way the Recovery Act continues to help the Commonwealth,” said Senator Casey. “By investing in job training programs and aiding areas that have been disproportionately impacted by the recession we can help put Pennsylvanians back to work.”
“I am pleased to see stimulus funds being used for on-the-job training opportunities,” said Senator Specter. “This funding will ensure that our dislocated workers will find employment, learn essential skills for their jobs and increase the likelihood of their own job retention.”
The funding is part of $75 million announced today by Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis for 41 states, the District of Columbia and three federally recognized Native American tribes. Today’s awards distribute these resources across the country, not only to deliver on-the-job training services to thousands of unemployed Americans, but also to build the capacity of the workforce investment system to engage in this critical training model in the months and years to come to assist in economic recovery.
National Emergency Grants (NEG) are discretionary awards by the Secretary of Labor that temporarily expand service capacity at the state and local levels through time-limited funding assistance in response to significant dislocation events.
