In Wake of Accident, Senator Pushed Administration to Quickly Get Aid Out the Door
Washington, DC- Following the fiery tanker crash in May that caused delays on I-81 for days, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) announced that the Department of Transportation is sending $9,650,500 in emergency funding to the state for repairs. In the wake of the crash, Senator Casey sent a letter to the Administration urging them to quickly move to aid the state in a rebuilding effort.
“I’m pleased that the U.S. Department of Transportation has moved quickly to aid Pennsylvania,” Casey said. “I urged the Administration to approve aid for the state without delay so we could begin the work of rebuilding I-81 which is a critical part of our state’s transportation infrastructure and economy.”
These funds are awarded for repair work such as emergency repairs needed to restore essential traffic, minimize the extent of damage, or protect the remaining facilities as well as permanent repairs necessary to restore the highway to its pre-disaster condition.
